  CAG Office Completes 150 Years

The institution of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) is one of the earliest institutions in the evolution of democratic processes in India, which ensures accountability in the Indian polity. The CAG, also known as the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI), has completed 150 years of its existence on 16 November 2010.

Run-up to Union Budget 2011-12: The budget comes into effect on April 1, the start of the new financial year; and has evolved over the past six decades to reflect the strength of our democratic processes in shaping our economy. Our spotlight highlights the Union Budget, basic structure of the Budget, the Economic Survey, State Budgets, etc.

This section highlights the changes or updates carried out during November in the National Portal of India.

States and Union Territories: The section introduces States and Union Territories and explores their magnificent uniqueness. New and up-to-date information has been compiled for Kerala providing detailed information about the unique demography, history, culture, festivals, language, etc., of the state.

My India My Pride: This section is a modest attempt at showcasing some of the varied facets of our country. India witnessed its 62nd Republic Day on 26 Jan, 2011. A colourful microsite on Republic Day highlighting history, celebrations, awards, etc has been added.

 
     
 
 


   

   
  Guidelines

The National Informatics Centre (NIC), in accordance with the Department of Administrative reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), has developed a set of guidelines i.e. Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) that address the entire lifecycle of a website, web portal/application right from its conceptualisation to design, development, maintenance and management of Government websites.

Making your website universally accessible

The Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) have been formulated so as to guide website designers to make their sites usable, user friendly and universally accessible. The complete set of guidelines in printable format can be accessed from the website www.web.guidelines.gov.in. Accompanying the guidelines is a compliance matrix checklist which can help you determine specifically which area of your website needs to be worked upon in order to make it compliant.

Design and Development sections of the Compliance Matrix lists important considerations for web accessibility which also adheres to W3C's WCAG 2.0.

In Tips & Tricks section of the website tips/ best practices that are an easy reference for every developer are given.

Under the Tools & Resources section information related to some free web based compliance testing tools is given. Information on free/commercial screen readers can also be accessed from this section.
